Dental Implants are a good way to replace teeth with a more natural look than dentures. Dental implants are not removed like other dental prosthetics and patients can eat nearly anything they would eat with natural teeth. To be a candidate for dental implants, a patient's jaw bone should be strong. However, with additional procedures, including bone grafting or soft tissue grafting, patients may still be eligible for dental implants. Dental implants can replace one, or all, teeth. Wisdom teeth removal is one of the most commonly performed surgeries at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Associates. Wisdom teeth need to be removed when they grow in at an angle, only partially emerge from the gum, or are impacted. Impacted teeth can cause bacteria to become trapped between the bone and the gum, and create more problems. When wisdom teeth push against other teeth, it can be painful and can cause misalignment of the surrounding teeth. Wisdom teeth often come in during the teenage and early twenties. Corrective jaw surgery is different than orthodontia because it involves repositioning jaw bones rather than simply aligning teeth. Corrective jaw surgery is also known as orthognathic surgery and is often needed when someone has an improper bite or their jaws are not positioned correctly.
